When it comes time to find a plastic surgeon that can perform your microdermabrasion, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) can help.

Its online referral service is free, and includes only those plastic surgeons that have been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (in the United States) or Canada's Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.  With this online service you can check the credentials of a specific plastic surgeon or search a specific geographic area for a plastic surgeon to perform your microdermabrasion.

ASPS is non-profit, created to support its member surgeons in providing high quality care for patients by educating them, helping with research and being their advocate.  ASPS is the home of 12 years of statistics on plastic surgery, for the years 1992 until the present. It is the only resource for this information.  These ASPS statistics on microdermabrasion and other procedures performed by surgeons include the work of those who are ASPS members   certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as surgeons certified by other boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

ASPS, begun in 1931, is the world's largest board-certified plastic surgeon organization, with close to 5000 members. It is a noteworthy authority and source of information on cosmetic procedures such as microdermabrasion as well as reconstructive surgical procedures. 94 percent of U.S. plastic surgeons that are board-certified belong to ASPS.  

The ASPS online referral service first asks you to choose whether you want a cosmetic or reconstructive procedure. For microdermabrasion you choose cosmetic. The new drop down menu then lets you choose microdermabrasion. Then, if you're seeking a plastic surgeon close to your home for your microdermabrasion you enter your address and then note the number of miles you're willing to travel for your treatment. You can choose to travel 10 miles, 25, 50, 100, 200 or 500 miles from your home.

The average cost of one microdermabrasion treatment by a plastic surgeon is $173, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. You should expect, however, to need several microdermabrasion treatments.
